SKATING THROUGH THE UNEMPLOYMENT TO EMPLOYMENT MAZE PART 4

Last week I closed part III of Skating through the Unemployment to Employment Maze by bringing up the issue of the resume and the interview.

I have mailed out thousands of resumes over these past two and a half years. Yes, two and a half years I have been looking for my next permanent position in ministry/fundraising. Oh sure, I have worked at other jobs, both in the nonprofit sector and in the for-profit sector, in fact I am working right now at a for-profit call center company called NCOGroup, which is just a temporary job through the Christmas season, unless they decide to extend my employment.

There are countless thousands of very great causes out there in the world, all doing incredible work for humanity, for animals and for the environment, etc. and I know where my heart’s desire is to work. I personally want to work for a Christian-faith based nonprofit.

Because jobs are scarce, I have applied at many secular nonprofits as well as many Christian-faith based nonprofits. I do know how to successfully function in both atmospheres. I understand that my personal faith and/or my personal political positions cannot interfere with the working atmosphere in the secular environment. For this reason, in those places I have learned to keep my opinions to myself. Because of my demonstrated leadership qualities the temp job that I had taken for Christmas has moved me into a supervisor position and I only started there about 5 weeks ago.
